What are you reading?

Due to my disabilities reading can be a struggle, but currently it is „Complex PTSD: From Surviving to thriving“ and for zines it’s „From one addict to another (an affirmation zine)“ by Nik Moreno

Early bird or night owl?

Always tired, but def early bird. I kind of love early mornings.

What’s on your headphones at the moment?

Always Daughter, my favourite band for years now

Where do you work best?

At my desk in my craft room. Lots of light, space and all my crafting stuff around me.

Who is your art/creative hero?

Kill your heros!! I was always told i was not creative- and ignoring that was the best thing i ever did. Besides that – all  my queer and disabled friends. Support marginalised people!

If you could deliver one piece of advice to your 14 year old self, what would it be?

Uff. It gets better and it gets bitter.

You are a good kid, let people love you.

Start therapy now, instead of waiting 13 more years. You are not a failure, your parents are!

Don’t date cis dudes, they are not worth your time.

BTW you are queer. And trans.

Stop reading stuff written by white men, nobody cares what they think.

STOP DIETING, being fat is fine.

What are you reading?

I’m normally reading a couple of things at the same time. The last graphic novels I’ve finished are: Roz Chast’s memoir “ Can’t we talk about something more pleasant?” It’s a very sincere approach on the hard topic of dealing with your parents ageing. I also finished the absolutely funny Julia Wertz “Drinking at the Movies” on her experience in moving to NY, more specifically Brooklyn.

I’m also carrying on my bag the fiction: Manual of Painting and Calligraphy from Portuguese writer Jose Saramago. About the struggles and self enquires of a young artist commissioned to paint a portrait of a famous person at the time.

Early bird or night owl?

Night owl for sure. As much as I want to seize the day and get an early start, when it’s up to my personal work I’m much more productive in the evenings. I can’t help it!

What’s on your headphones at the moment?

I’m a podcast addictive. Now I’m hearing Graphic Novel TK a podcast about comics and self publishing made by two nice ladies: Alison Wilgus and Gina Gagliano. They guide you into every step into the business, with nice interviews too. Definitely worth tuning on!

Where do you work best?

I work on my studio, in desktop situation for sketching and writing. Once the images are ready I either prepare files for print or go back to the screen print studio for printing. I do like both parts of the process. I tried sharing studio for the creative part of the process, but in general I end up coming up with ideas better when I’m by myself, in my own space.

The flip side is for printing, which is nice to be around people, and have a cup of tea while waiting for your screen to dry for the next printing layer.

Who is your art/creative hero?

Creative hero is a tricky one! Many people influence my work. I’m very inspired by Maira Kalman’s work at the moment.

If you could deliver one piece of advice to your 14 year old self, what would it be?

To my Mini Bia I would advice to keep playing as much as you can. With any materials you can find. And definitely that you should not stop drawing!

Who should we be following on twitter/instagram? (name 1 for each)

How long have you been making zines/comics?

I’m been making my own zines since I arrived in London after leaving Brazil – which is 7 years now.

Weapon of choice

Pencil, crayons, pens, anything with nice textures, really. As long as it is all in black! So I can easily work it in layers for separation to print later on! Than very vibrant acrylic colours for print!

Recommended zine/comic

For print lovers, Kingdom is the latest graphic novel from Jon McNaught – it’s a lovely slice of summer. In his impeccable style, published in Pantones by Nobrow. I can’t recommend it enough.
